Watch your bag on Las Ramblas — pickpockets target tourists constantly, especially near the market entrance. Use a crossbody bag and keep your phone in your front pocket at all times.

Avoid eating while walking — it's considered rude in Japan. 7-Eleven and FamilyMart convenience store food is genuinely excellent and cheap. Don't skip it thinking it's a downgrade.

Get an OMNY card instead of a MetroCard — tap-to-pay and you automatically get the 7th ride free after 12 rides in a week. Works with Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Restaurants near tourist spots charge a "couvert" — bread, butter, and olives placed on the table that cost extra. You didn't order it and you can refuse it. Most tourists don't know this.

Hidden GemParis
Skip the Eiffel Tower gift shops entirely. Walk 10 minutes to Rue Cler — a real neighborhood market street used by actual Parisians. Better food, better prices, better atmosphere.

If someone tells you a temple is "closed today" and offers to take you somewhere else — it's a scam. The Grand Palace is never closed to tourists. Just walk in through the main gate.

Is Lisbon safe for solo travel at night?
Lisbon is generally very safe — it's one of Western Europe's safer capitals. A few nuances: Martim Moniz and parts of Mouraria feel sketchy after midnight. Bairro Alto gets rowdy on weekends (mostly harmless). Príncipe Real and Chiado are safe at any hour.

Keep your phone out of sight in crowded areas and you'll be fine.
